From clifftop studios in Cornwall to converted farmhouses in the Yorkshire Dales — the best yoga retreats across the UK for a proper reset, whether you're a beginner or a dedicated practitioner.

A yoga retreat is one of those experiences that's almost impossible to replicate at home. The combination of daily practice, good food, no distractions, and a beautiful natural setting creates a depth of rest and clarity that a weekend of yoga classes simply can't match.

The UK has a genuinely excellent retreat scene — often overlooked in favour of Bali or Tuscany, but offering something those destinations can't: wild coastline, ancient woodland, and the particular peace of the British countryside in good weather.

Here are the best yoga retreats across the UK for 2025.

What to Expect from a UK Yoga Retreat

A good yoga retreat typically includes two sessions per day (morning and afternoon), wholesome vegetarian or vegan meals, and accommodation on-site or nearby. The best ones add something extra: meditation, breathwork, wild swimming, sound healing, or access to exceptional landscape.

Retreats range from weekend breaks (Friday evening to Sunday afternoon) to week-long immersions. Prices typically run from around £300 for a weekend to £1,200+ for a full week including accommodation and all meals.

Sussex: Retreats in the South Downs

Sussex punches well above its weight for yoga retreats, with the South Downs National Park providing a stunning backdrop for practice. Trigon Yoga and several independent retreat centres in the Lewes and Uckfield areas run regular residential retreats throughout the year, often combining yoga with walking in the Downs.

The East Sussex countryside — particularly the Ashdown Forest and Rother Valley areas — hosts a number of small-group retreat weekends run by individual teachers rather than large retreat centres. These tend to be more intimate, more affordable, and often more transformative than large commercial retreats.

For something unique, several Sussex glamping sites — including Wowo near Sheffield Park — host occasional yoga retreat weekends that combine outdoor practice with wild swimming and sauna.

Cornwall: Atlantic Light and Coastal Practice

Cornwall is one of the UK's premier retreat destinations, and for good reason. The Atlantic light, dramatic coastline, and slower pace of life in the far west make it genuinely conducive to deep rest and practice.

The Penzance and St Ives areas host numerous retreats, many of them in converted farmhouses and barns with views of the sea. Several studios near Newquay combine yoga with surf culture — morning practice followed by afternoon in the water is a particularly popular format.

Yoga retreat weeks in Cornwall in July and August book out months in advance. September and October are excellent alternatives — the crowds thin, the light turns golden, and the sea is at its warmest.

Devon: Dartmoor and the Dart Valley

Devon's retreat scene centres on the area around Totnes and the Dart Valley — a stretch of lush, wooded river country that has been a hub for alternative and spiritual practice since the 1970s. The Sharpham Trust, Dartington Hall, and several smaller retreat centres all operate in this area.

Dartmoor itself provides extraordinary landscape for walking meditation and outdoor practice — open moorland, ancient stone rows, and the eerie granite tors of the high moor. Several retreat operators offer moorland walking integrated with yoga and mindfulness.

Yorkshire: Dales and Moors

Yorkshire's retreat scene has grown considerably in recent years, with Harrogate, Skipton, and the villages of the Dales all hosting regular yoga retreats. The landscape here — gentler than the Lake District but with a wildness of its own — suits slower, more restorative styles of practice.

Yin yoga and yoga nidra retreats are particularly popular in Yorkshire, making use of the quiet and the long evenings. Several converted barn conversions in the Wharfe Valley and around Grassington make exceptional retreat settings.

Scotland: The Highlands and Islands

For the most dramatic setting of any UK yoga retreat, Scotland is hard to beat. The Highlands offer genuinely remote practice — waking to highland cattle and golden eagles rather than alarm clocks and notifications.

The Isle of Skye, the Cairngorms, and Perthshire all host retreat operators. Accommodation ranges from luxury lodges to simple bothy-style accommodation. The combination of cold loch swimming, morning yoga on high ground, and long summer evenings makes a Highland retreat a singular experience.

Wales: Pembrokeshire and Snowdonia

Wales offers two distinct retreat landscapes: the coastal wildness of Pembrokeshire, with its sea stacks and sheltered coves, and the mountain drama of Snowdonia. Both host yoga retreats, and both offer sea or loch swimming as a complement to practice.

Pembrokeshire Coast National Park is particularly good for retreats that combine yoga with coasteering, wild swimming, and coastal walking.

What to Look For in a Retreat

  • Teacher experience — look for Yoga Alliance RYT 200 or 500 certification, and ideally a specialist training in the style they're teaching
  • Group size — smaller groups (under 12) allow for more personal attention and a more intimate atmosphere
  • What's included — check whether accommodation, all meals, and all sessions are included in the headline price
  • Style — make sure the yoga style suits your level and what you're looking for. Vinyasa and Ashtanga are dynamic; Yin, Restorative and Yoga Nidra are much slower and more deeply restful
